Ferguson Buys Street Sense Filly for $650,000

Hip 55 sold for $650,000 during the Keeneland September Sale.

One of the top-priced horses sold at the Sept. 11 opening session of the Keeneland September yearling sale, a Street Sense   filly sold for $650,000, came from the dispersal of horses owned by the late Prince Saud bin Khaled’s Palides Investments N.V., with Lane’s End as agent.

The filly, produced from the multiple grade III-winning A.P. Indy mare Delta Princess, was bought by John Ferguson, Sheikh Mohammed’s agent. Delta Princess, who had 11 victories and $740,918 in earnings during her career, also produced 2011 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) and Alabama Stakes (gr. I) winner Royal Delta.

A native of Saudi Arabia, Prince Saud bin Khaled conducted his Thoroughbred racing and breeding operation under the Palides name, which he began in 1984 with the purchase of six horses. He established his 260-acre Chanteclair Farm, near Midway, Ky., in 1995.

Prince Saud bred 30 stakes horses from 137 starters foaled at the farm, led by French group I winner Biondetti and North American grade I winners Continuously, Dreams Gallore, Indy Five Hundred, and Lear’s Princess. In partnership with Karen Woods, he bred and raced 2008 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Maram.
