Jockey Victor Carrero broke his right ankle in a starting gate mishap before Sunday's third race at Belmont Park.
Carrero was injured when his mount, Showtime, flipped in the gate and he became caught underneath it. He was taken to North Shore Hospital.
According to his agent, Jose Morales, Carrero was to undergo surgery Monday morning and will be out two-to-three months.
Showtime was scratched from the race and his misbehavior led to the scratch of Add It Up.
