Jockey Tyler Baze was taken off mounts and suspended indefinitely by Del Mar stewards Sept. 1 after he refused to take a breathalyzer test, several news outlets confirmed.
Baze, 28, missed three days of racing Aug. 19-21 after failing a breathalyzer and agreeing to mandatory testing when he returned to riding. However, he failed to take a required breathalyzer test Thursday morning, and when contacted later said he had been involved in a minor automobile accident.
The stewards’ ruling denies Baze access to all Del Mar facilities until a hearing is conducted. The Del Mar meet ends Sept. 7.
Baze is ninth in the Del Mar jockey standings with 10 wins in 134 mounts.
