Unbeaten Majestic City, winner of the July 17 Hollywood Juvenile Championship Stakes (gr. III) at Hollywood Park, worked five furlongs in a bullet :59 under jockey David Flores on Sept. 1 in preparation for the Sept. 7 Del Mar Futurity (gr. I).
Majestic City broke off five lengths behind a workmate and finished about five lengths in front.
“It was perfect,” said Peter Miller, who trains the son of City Zip for Jeffrey Bloom. “He came home (the last quarter) in :23 and it was just what we wanted. We were shooting for :59 to a minute and he did it the right way. We’re ready.”
Flores, who has Futurity victories aboard Silver Charm (1996), Forest Camp (1999) and Icecoldbeeratreds (2002), concurred with Miller.
“It went very well, I was happy with it,” Flores said. “We worked him long last week, so this was just to top him off.” Majestic City worked six furlongs under Flores in a bullet 1:12 Aug. 26. "He has natural speed; we’re trying to teach him to relax. He has the ability. I don’t know what the field is going to be like, but he’s ready.”
Majestic City broke his maiden at Hollywood Park May 21, after which he captured the June 12 William L. Proctor Memorial Stakes at the same track. He has earned $135,570 from his three victories.
Entries will close and post positions will be drawn for the Futurity, as well as the rest of the closing day card, Sept. 3.
