Penelope Miller has been hired by the National Thoroughbred Racing Associations to fill the newly created position of social media manager. According to an NTRA release, Miller began her employment last week and is based at the NTRA communications office located within The Jockey Club offices in midtown Manhattan in New York City, N.Y.
According to the announcement, Miller will be responsible for day-to-day management of NTRA.com as well as the NTRA’s social media and fan-engagement initiatives. A graduate of Georgetown University, Miller most recently served as a horsemen’s liaison. In addition, Miller also spearheaded all social media initiatives, managed website content, wrote all press releases, coordinated program advertising, and created graphic design for the track’s media guide.
Miller previously was an assistant at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, was a sales assistant for a Florida breeding farm, and worked as a groom and exercise rider.
“This is an important new position, and we’re delighted to welcome in Penelope, who has such an impressive and varied background within our industry,” said Alex Waldrop, president and CEO of the NTRA. “We are grateful to The Jockey Club for its continued support of our communications efforts as we both strive to grow the fan base of our sport through various strategic initiatives.”
