Dabirsim wins the Prix Morny
Dabirsim remained undefeated with a dominating victory in the $503,685 Darley Prix Morny (Fr-I) at Deauville Aug. 21.
Ridden for the first time by Frankie Dettori, the 2-year-old son of Hat Trick was settled toward the rear of the field early as Family One set the pace. British raiders Frederick Engels and Gatepost tracked him in second and third, with longshot Dont Teutch held up in fourth.
Family One continued to sail along up front, moving easily for jockey Ioritz Mendizabal. Dabirsim began to make progress from the rear for Dettori, edging closer between horses before getting into the clear along the rail.
With two furlongs left to go, Dettori pushed the button and Dabirsim responded, charging along the rail to challenge Family One for the lead. Dabirsim took command in the final furlong and began to draw off, eventually crossing the wire three lengths in front.
Family One held onto second, finishing a length in front of the late-closing Vladimir. Final time for the six furlongs was 1:10 over the good going.
Dettori was very impressed with Dabirsim, saying afterwards, “He’s a very, very good horse with a lot of speed and I suggested they went for the Middle Park (Eng-I).”
The Morny victory was the first group I success for the young French trainer Christophe Ferland, who trains the colt for owner Simon Springer.
Dabirsim was bred in France by Mrs. L. Monfort, and is out of the Royal Academy mare Rumored. He is a half-brother to the multiple stakes winner Preferred Yield (by High Yield).
