Grade I winner Jaycito is scheduled to undergo throat surgery in the near future, according to an Aug. 16 Daily Racing Form story. The 3-year-old son of Victory Gallop finished fifth in a 1 1/16-mile allowance/optional claiming event at Del Mar Aug. 13 in his first race since March.
Jaycito’s Hall of Fame trainer, Bob Baffert, told the Form that a tie-back procedure would be performed on Jaycito to correct a breathing problem.
Owned by Zayat Stables, Jaycito captured the 2010 Norfolk Stakes (gr. I) and also finished second in that year’s Del Mar Futurity (gr. I). This year, he was second in the San Felipe Stakes (gr. II).
Jaycito has won once and finished second three times in his six career races. He has earned $261,300.
