Grade I Winner Serra Lake Retired

Emory A. Hamilton's homebred Serra Lake has been retired from racing following an unplaced effort in the Oct. 6 Beldame Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park and arrived Oct. 19 at Helen Alexander's Middlebrook Farm near Lexington. The two women are sisters.
Serra Lake, who descends from Hamilton's foundation mare, grade I winner Too Chic, scored her major win in this year's Go for Wand Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga and also took the Pimlico Distaff Handicap (gr. III) in May. The 4-year-old filly (Seattle Slew--Tara Roma, by Lyphard) retires with seven wins from 15 starts and earnings of $486,760 for trainer Claude R (Shug) McGaughey. Breeding plans have not yet been completed.
