Spellbinder Sires First Winner

Spellbinder, a grade II winner, came through with his first winner when his daughter Houdini’s Bluff won at Delaware Park Aug. 10. The 2-year-old filly ran the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06.52 to win by a head for King Star (VIDEO).

Bred in Pennsylvania by Epona Equine and Otto Draper, Houdini’s Bluff is the second winner from as many named foals out of the Pine Bluff mare Aly’s Bluff.

Spellbinder (Tale of the Cat  —Thorough Fair, by Quiet American  ) won the San Antonio Handicap (gr. II) and the Berkeley Handicap (gr. III). He stands at Stonewall Farm Ocala near Ocala, Fla. His 2011 fee was $1,500.
