Bill Barisoff, a jockey agent for decades on the Southern California circuit who had battled cancer for the last several years, died the morning of Aug. 7. He was 67.
Known affectionately as “The Bear,” for both his size and surname, Barisoff represented jockeys Terry Lipham and Eddie Delahoussaye among others in the course of a long career. He was possibly best known as the last agent for the legendary Bill Shoemaker before the jockey’s retirement in 1989.
Barisoff’s survivors include his wife Shannon and sons Austin and Aaron.
A family spokesperson said there are no plans for memorial services at this time, but something will be scheduled after the Del Mar meeting ends.
