Texas Stallion Seneca Jones Dies at Age 21

Seneca Jones,  a 21-year-old son of Alydar, died of an apparent heart attack Aug. 1 while in his paddock at the Asmussen Horse Center near Laredo, Tex. He was buried in his paddock on the farm.

Seneca Jones was bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones, who also bred and raced his dam, Tiffany Lass, whose eight wins in 10 starts included the Kentucky Oaks and Fantasy Stakes, both grade I. After winning one of four starts, Seneca Jones was retired to Asmussen Horse Center, where he stood h is entire career. The stallion serviced 22 mares during the 2011 breeding season.

From 15 crops of racing age, Seneca Jones has been represented by progeny that have earned in excess of $5.1 million, with nine stakes winners.  His best runners achieved success on the Texas racing circuit and include stakes winners Seneca Summer, Wings of Jones, Tiffany Royal, Timber Jones, and Roundabout Jones.

“He was like a member of our family and we are heartbroken about his passing,” Keith and Marilyn Asmussen said in a statement.
