Juddmonte Farms’ unbeaten homebred Frankel has now assumed top position in the World Thoroughbred Rankings at 135 pounds following his scintillating performance in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes (Eng-I).

Frankel’s defeat of Canford Cliffs, who came in at 127 pounds, by five lengths was the colt’s eighth win with no defeats and makes him the highest-rated miler since the WTR began in 2004 and the highest rated miler in Europe since El Gran Senor at 138 in 1984.

Black Caviar, the Australian-based runner who had been tied with Frankel atop the previous rankings, is second on the list covering racing from Feb. 1-July 31 at 130 pounds.

Canford Cliffs and two other British-based runners—Nathaniel and Rewilding—are tied at 127, followed by Irish-based So You Think (126). Rocket Man, who is based in Singapore, and British-based Workforce, are tied at 125.

Highest rated U.S. runner is Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT) winner Acclamation, tied with nine others at 122.

Animal Kingdom   and Shackleford  , the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner, respectively, were among the horses tied at 121 pounds.
