Smarty Jones arrived at Haras Cuatro Piedras in Uruguay at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 and was bred to his first mare five hours later. According to co-owner Claudia Rosas, who owns Cuatro Piedras with her husband Pablo Salomone, the 2004 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness (gr. I) winner has settled nicely into his new home.
“Smarty had a quiet and calm rest in quarantine,” Rosas said. “He ate up beautifully, and adjusted well in the change of food. He seems to be at home. He bred his first mare in an spectacular way. He was really anxious and he rushed through the breeding shed.
