A day after winning the Resorts Casino Hotel Haskell Invitational (gr. He said that the 3-year-old son of Point Given would leave Monmouth Park for the racetrack in upstate New York Aug. 2.
“He’ll ship up to Saratoga tomorrow and train up there,” Baffert said. Aug. 1 “If he shows me what he was showing me leading up to this race (Haskell) then he’ll run (in the Travers). If he shows me he is on his game, he’ll go. He’s fine. All reports were good this morning.”
Coil’s victory over Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Shackleford provided Baffert with a record fifth Haskell and was a repeat victory for owner Mike Pegram and partners Karl Watson and Paul Weitman. The owners and trainer teamed up to win the 2010 Haskell with eventual 3-year-old champion Lookin At Lucky .
Coil, who was bred in Florida by Glen Hill Farm, has now earned $748,560 with four wins in six lifetime starts. He won the Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) June 11 at Hollywood in his only prior stakes win.
