Richard L. Duchossois will receive the Ellen and Herbert Moelis "Equine Savior Award for Philanthropy" at the Equine Advocates' 10th annual awards dinner and charity auction Aug. 4 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress Bebe Newirth will present Duchossois with his award. The gala will be co-chaired by Julie Bonacio and actress and horsewoman Bo Derek, who will present the "Bo Derek Award of Merit" to jockey Kent Desormeaux.

A prominent horse owner, breeder, and racetrack owner, Duchossois earlier this year was honored as the Thoroughbred Club of America’s Honored Guest “for rendering outstanding service to or contributing toward the betterment of Thoroughbred racing and/or breeding.”

A long-time director of Churchill Downs, Inc. and a member of The Jockey Club, Duchossois was honored with an Eclipse Award of Merit in 2004 for his contributions to racing.

Duchossois is best known for his management of Arlington Park, which is now owned by Churchill Downs Inc. In that role, Duchossois established the Arlington Million and oversaw the rebuilding of the track in 1985 after the grandstand was destroyed by fire. That year’s Million was run only 25 days after the fire and was dubbed the “Miracle Million,” earning the track the first of three Eclipse Awards it has received.

All proceeds raised at the gala will directly benefit Equine Advocates Horse Rescue, Sanctuary, and Humane Education Programs. The event will take place in the new wing of the Saratoga City Center on Broadway. Tickets are $250 per person; front tier tickets: $500. For more information, call (518) 245-1599.
