Harlan's Holiday Leads F-T KY Sire List
Harlan's Holiday , who had the $310,000 sale topper at the July 12 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale, was the auction’s leading sire by average (minimum of three sold). The son of Harlan had three yearlings sell for an average of $131,000. In all 191 yearlings were reported as sold for an average of $69,890. The 12-year-old Harlan’s Holiday stands at Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky. With more than $3.1 million in 2011 progeny earnings, he currently ranks among the top 20 leading sires and has eight stakes winners so far this year. His fee for 2011 was $25,000. Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet and George Bolton combined forces to buy the sale topper, a colt out of Acrosstheborder. He was consigned by Crossroads Sales Agency, agent. At Fasig-Tipton, Harlan's Holiday was also represented by a $225,000 colt that was purchased by Patrice Miller of EQB Inc., agent. Out of Shiny Band, the colt was consigned by Gainesway, agent. First-crop sire Big Brown was the sale’s second leading sire, with an average of $130,000 for four yearlings sold. Big Brown, winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands, Preakness Stakes, and Florida Derby (all gr. I) and champion 3-year-old male of 2008, stands at Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. His 2011 fee was $40,000. Big Brown had three of four of sale yearlings sold bring six figures, with a filly out of Irish Smoke being purchased by Cory Wagner/Donver Stables for $220,000 from the consignment of Select Sales, agent. Flashy Bull , a son of Holy Bull currently No. 3 on the leading freshman sire list, was ranked third with three sales yearlings averaging $116,667. Flashy Bull, who stands at Brereton C. Jones' Airdrie Stud near Midway, Ky., is the sire of recent Debutante Stakes (gr. III) winner Flashy Lassie. Sire – No. Sold (min of 3) – Avg.
