Bucking a trend that has most public auctions cutting back on the number of horses offered, Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 216 New York-bred yearlings for its Preferred Sale in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14.
The total reflects an increase of 40 yearlings, or nearly 23%, over the number cataloged for the sale one year ago. There are 14 additional consignors represented in the sale this year, including the largest consignment in the sale from Vinery Sales, agent.
Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning said the increase in number of horses offered could be attributed to the optimistic outlook on the part of breeders as a result of developments in the state that will result in more revenues for racing. New York City's first casino is now under construction at Aqueduct Racecourse.
“New York breeders have worked patiently and diligently to support the efforts which have brought about sweeping changes to the revenue stream available for racing in New York State and to its local Thoroughbred industry,” Browning said. “The quality and numbers in this year’s catalog is a direct reflection of the confidence breeders have in the positive direction the New York-bred program will now move.”
Catalogs for the sale may now be reviewed on line at the auction company’s website and will be available at all Fasig-Tipton offices from July 11.
