F-T Saratoga Select Sale Has 160 Yearlings

Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 160 horses for its Saratoga select yearling sale. The number is down 20.8% from last year’s total of 202.

The 91st edition of the auction will be held Aug. 8 and 9 in upstate New York, with each session beginning at 7 p.m. (EDT).

The decline of size in the boutique sale’s catalog is something that will probably be seen at many auctions this year because of a decline in the size of North America’s foal crop. Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky July select yearling sale has 303 yearlings, a number that is down 25.6% from 2010’s total of 407.

“We have eight of the top 10 current leading sires represented and yearlings by most of the top established and young sires you expect to find in this very selective market,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning.  “We will also welcome several new faces to the Spa this year to join the consignors who, over many years, have helped make Saratoga the great source it is for top-quality racehorses.”

Recent graduates of the Saratoga sale include 2011 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Plum Pretty, 2011 QIPCO One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) winner Blue Bunting, and 2010 Mile Championship (Jpn-I) winner A Shin Forward.
