The National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association in conjunction with Equine Savings is donating 10 Toro Lawnmowers to aid the Kentucky HBPA and its members who suffered losses from the tornado that hit Churchill Downs June 22.

Ten HBPA affiliates across the United States will be raffling the Toro mowers the weekend of July 4 and hope to raise about $10,000.

“Toro graciously donated these mowers, stepping up in a time of need and demonstrating they are a true partner committed to the equine world,” Equine Savings founder Steve Andersen said in a statement.

National HBPA director of operations Laura Plato contacted the various affiliates to see if they could take part in the fundraiser.

As of June 28, the following groups are participating: Colorado Horse Racing Association at Arapahoe Park; Florida HBPA at Calder Casino & Race Course; Iowa HBPA at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino; Minnesota HBPA at Canterbury Park; Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma at Remington Park; Pennsylvania HBPA at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and Presque Isle Downs & Casino; Virginia HBPA at Colonial Downs; and Washington HBPA at Emerald Downs.
