Multiple grade I winner Shakespeare   was represented by his first winner when his daughter Quantum of Solange won at Naples in Italy June 23. The juvenile filly captured the race at about seven furlongs by two lengths.

Bred in Kentucky by Frank and Mattie Justice’s Dell Ridge Farm, Quantum of Solange is the second winner from two starters out of the stakes-winning Sandpit mare Bolaro, who is a half sister to two stakes winners, including graded winner Big Bambu.

Shakespeare, who raced as a homebred for Dell Ridge in partnership with William Schettine, won the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) and the Woodbine Mile Stakes (Can-IT) and set a course record in the Belmont Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. IIT). He captured seven of eight starts and earned $1,293,780.

Shakespeare (Theatrical—Lady Shirl, by That’s a Nice) stands for $10,000 at Schettine’s Signature Stallions near Reddick, Fla.
