Sam-Son Farms' Only to You shipped south from Canada for a narrow victory in Sunday's $100,000 Dowager Stakes at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky. The 5-year-old Lord at War mare trained by Mark Frostad took the lead rounding the final turn in the 1 1/2-mile turf test and opened up in the stretch. What appeared a sure win soon evaporated and Only to You was nearly caught by Bowl of Emeralds and Krisada but prevailed in the three-horse photo finish.
The winner was timed in 2:35 1/5 for the 1 1/2 miles over yielding turf and paid $7.40, $4.80, and $3.20. Bowl of Emeralds was worth $10.00 and $4.60, with Krisada paying $3.00 to show.
Trained by Mark Frostad, Only to You posted her fourth win in her 14th career start in the Dowager. She previously finished fifth, 2 1/2 lengths behind winner Chocolate Ice in the E. P. Taylor (Can-I) at Woodbine after a fourth-place effort in the Beverly D (gr. IT) at Arlington Park.
Only to You provided jockey Robby Albarado with his fourth victory of the day. "She (Only to You) loves this course," said Albarado. " really liked her at this distance because she's the kind of filly that likes to gallop along and make the lead turning for home which is just what she did. She's a special horse. She loves Keeneland and she's special to me because I won my 2000th race on her a year and a half ago."
Also on Sunday, Hall of Famer Pat Day had four wins and trainer Dale Romans found the winner's circle three times.
