Belmont Day Could be a Wet One

If the forecast is correct, Saturday’s Belmont Stakes (gr. I) could be run over a wet track, a factor that will be considered by many handicappers.

One day after racing was canceled June 9 at Belmont Park—with the high temperature reaching 92 degrees—the National Weather Service was forecasting a 60% chance of rain the night of June 10, with showers and a few thunderstorms.

On Belmont Day, there is also a 60% chance of rain, with the NWS forecasting rain showers in the morning and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The high temperature Saturday is predicted to be 72 degrees, with winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Unlike Churchill Downs, which prohibits umbrellas on the days that the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) are run, umbrellas are allowed at Belmont Park on Belmont Day, according to the New York Racing Association customer service department.
