Arapaho Miss Sets Pace at MM Broodmare Sale

Arapaho Miss, winner of the 2007 Crown Oaks (Aust-I), sold for Aust$650,000 ($695,682 in U.S. funds) to top the second session of the Magic Millions national broodmare auction in Australia May 30. Offered by Amarina Farm, the daughter of Danehill Dancer and the Exit to Nowhere mare Happy Heart was purchased by Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud.

"She's a quality mare in foal to an in form stallion (in Lonhro  )," Harvey said. "She is a welcome addition to the Baramul Stud broodmare band."

Arapaho Miss was foaled in 2004.

The results for the sale’s first two sessions combined included a gross of Aust$16,025,350 ($17,151,600) for the 332 horses that were sold. The average price was Aust$48,269 ($51,661). Compared to last year, when 326 horses were sold, the gross was down 10.1% and the average fell 11.8%.

The clearance rate dropped from 79.1% in 2010 to 76.1% this year.

"It's been pleasing to see that yesterday's solid opening to the sale has continued today with good interest at most levels of the market," said Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox. "The quality mares put up for sale attracted plenty of interest. People came wanting to do business and that is what has happened. There was a good vibe around the grounds over the past few days."
