Quantum Miss Sharp; Fabulous Strike Fifth

Tea Party Stable’s Fabulous Strike couldn’t overcome a poor start and checked in fifth in the May 27 Changing Times Stakes at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, leaving Daniel Ryan’s Quantum Miss the star of the evening program.
Quantum Miss, ridden by Jeremy Rose, won the $75,000 Wonders Delight Stakes for 3-year-old fillies bred in Pennsylvania by 12 lengths and in the process set a new track record of 1:08.63 for six furlongs at Penn National (VIDEO
). The previous mark of 1:08.65 was set by Bold Union in 2009.
She was a prohibitive favorite, paying $2.20 to win. The track was rated fast for all three stakes on the Friday evening card.
Quantum Miss, by Smoke Glacken
, has now won three consecutive stakes, including the Cicada (gr. III) at Aqueduct. She’s now five-for-seven lifetime for trainer Anthony Dutrow.
Fabulous Strike, an 8-year-old gelding by Smart Strike
, was the 1-2 favorite in the $75,000 Changing Times. Ridden by Dana Whitney, he broke slowly, moved into contention soon after, and then flattened out in the stretch.
Lucky Star Racing’s Peppi Knows
, trained locally by Tim Kreiser and ridden by Frankie Pennington, rallied to win the Changing Times in 1:10.10 for six furlongs (VIDEO
) . The 4-year-old Stephen Got Even
gelding now has two stakes victories.
Fabulous Strike, trained by Todd Beattie at Penn National, returned from an 18-month layoff April 9 to win an allowance event at Penn National. The winner of 15 of 25 races, 12 of them stakes, underwent stem-cell therapy for a tendon problem in 2010.
In the $75,000 Danzig Stakes for 3-year-olds bred in Pennsylvania, Sylmar Farm’s Moonlite Grinder
defeated four foes in 1:09.82 (VIDEO
). The Grindstone
gelding was ridden by Angel Rodriguez and is trained by T. Bernard Houghton, who also saddled second-place finisher Trade Secret.
