Jockey Carlos H. Marquez Jr. was taken to Monmouth Medical Center after being injured in the starting gate prior to the fifth race May 22 at Monmouth Park.

“He had a pretty serious bruise on his right calf,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, Monmouth Park medical director.  “I sent him to Monmouth Medical just for precautionary x-rays on his right leg.”

A 43-year-old native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Marquez was fourth in the Monmouth Park jockey standings heading into the day's racing.
