Graded stakes winner High Cotton   sired his first winner when his son Tarpy's Goal won at Churchill Downs May 19 for owner Mike Tarp in his initial outing. The colt captured the five-furlong maiden special weight race by 2 3/4 lengths in :58.88 over odds-on favorite Smoke It Over (VIDEO).

Tarp, through trainer Dale Romans, bought Tarpy’s Goal for $70,000 from Omega Farm, agent, at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Florida March sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Tarpy’s Goal, who was bred in Kentucky by Chad R. Schumer and Nancy Sexton, is the fifth winner out of Irish-bred Terre des Hommes (by Exbourne).

High Cotton (Dixie Union—Happy Tune, by A.P. Indy) ran some of his biggest races at Churchill Downs. He won the Northern Dancer Breeders’ Cup Stakes (gr. III) at the track and twice was graded stakes-placed there.

High Cotton stands for $2,500 at J. Michael O’Farrell’s Ocala Stud Farm near Ocala, Fla.
