Power Restored at Aqueduct After Line Severed

Electrical repair specialists, working overnight into the morning of May 14, restored full power to Aqueduct Racetrack after an accident a day earlier cut power to the facility.

New York Racing Association officials announced that full power had been restored to Aqueduct by 1 p.m. EDT.

According to a NYRA statement, power was lost throughout the facility at about 2 p.m. on May 13 when a construction vehicle severed a main power line.

As a result, all NYRA employees at Aqueduct were sent home and Aqueduct operations, including simulcasting, were suspended for the remainder of the day. Because NYRA’s phone and email systems originate at Aqueduct, these systems also ceased to function due to the outage. In addition, The NYRA Network, channel 71 on Time Warner’s basic cable system, went dark.

Live racing and wagering at Belmont Park were unaffected by the outage. There were no sustained interruptions to Telebet or internet wagering via NYRA Rewards caused by the power loss, NYRA reported.
