Owner Bob Yagos said Archarcharch has been retired from racing after fracturing his left front leg during the May 7 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
Yagos and trainer Jinks Fires told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette the decision was made after surgeon Dr. Larry Bramlage treated the Arkansas Derby (gr. I) winner the morning of May 8. Yagos and Fires did not immediately return messages May 9.
Archarcharch, by Arch , had pins inserted to repair the fracture following a 15th-place finish in the Derby, and Fires said then that the colt's racing future was uncertain. Fires said Bramlage found more extensive problems.
Fires also said Bramlage was certain the injury occurred when the colt stumbled leaving the gate.
Archarcharch, who also won the Southwest Stakes (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park, retires with three wins in seven starts and earnings of $832,744.
