Bourbon Belle repeated her wire-to-wire win in the 1999 Honorable Miss Handicap (gr. III) with a front-running 7 1/2 length victory in the second division of this year's split renewal of the race Wednesday at Saratoga. The Peter Salmen Jr. trainee splashed home after completing the six furlongs run over a sloppy track in 1:08.93, over a second faster than the first division. Cassidy came home second, followed by Go to the Ink, The Happy Hopper, Country Hideaway, Silver Chele, La Galerie, and Preciosa V. Foil was scratched. As the second choice in the wagering, Bourbon Belle returned $7.20 for the win and led an exacta worth $27.80.

"When she went in :22, I knew the rest of them would be in trouble," said Salmen. "She is very good right now and she's a classy mare. I think she'll get the seven-eighths in the Ballerina."

Willie Martinez rode Bourbon Belle to the win, her 15th in 37 starts. In addition to her two Honorable Miss wins, Bourbon Belle (Storm Boot--Timeless Girl, by Whitesburg) won the 1998 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. III). With the win, Bourbon Belle earned $65,850 of the $109,750 purse for owners S. Bunning, G.S. Hofmeister, K. Hofmeister, and D. Salmen. Bourbon Belle, a 5-year-old mare, was bred in Kentucky by Peter Salmen III.
