Super Saver , last year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner, will shuttle to Eliza Park Stud near Kerrie, Victoria, Australia, from his base at Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., following the North American breeding season. Super Saver, who stands at WinStar for $20,000, will hold court at Eliza Park for AUST$16,500 including GST.
“He is represented by a wonderful pedigree,” said Eliza Park CEO Cameron Croucher in a release. “We made a conscious decision to seek an outcross for the coming season and are thrilled to be entrusted with Super Saver on behalf of his owners and the famed WinStar Farm.”
By Maria's Mon, Super Saver is out of multiple graded stakes producer Supercharger (by A.P. Indy) and traces in female family to the great La Troienne. His fourth dam is champion Numbered Account.
“We’ve got every confidence in Super Saver and are very excited about our first venture in Australia,” said WinStar CEO and president Elliott Walden. “He’s certainly the right horse.”
Super Saver, a half brother to 2011 graded winner Brethren, won the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at 2. In addition to winning the Kentucky Derby, Super Saver ran second in the 2010 Arkansas Derby (gr. I) and third in the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III).
According to the Eliza Park release, Kentucky Derby winners boast a greater percentage of stakes winners to runners in the Southern Hemisphere than Golden Slipper (Aust-I) winners over the past three decades.
