Dialed In , the probable Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) morning-line favorite, worked a half-mile Thursday, April 28 at Palm Meadows in South Florida.
Working in company, the Florida Derby (gr. I) winner breezed four furlongs in :48 2/5 with regular work rider Maxine Correa aboard. He clocked splits of :12, :24 1/5, and :36 4/5 before finishing about three lengths ahead of workmate Miner’s Escape. He galloped out five-eighths in 1:01 2/5.
“This is what I wanted…those 12s,” said trainer Nick Zito of the 12-second splits. "This horse is very rippled. This horse is very ready. I can guarantee this horse is not going to be short. I can’t guarantee anything else, but I’ll tell you he won’t be short. We know the kind of horse he is. Any horse that gives you the last eighth in :11 and change…I don’t know what else he can give you? The horse is happy here. He likes the track.”
The son of
Mineshaft is expected to arrive at Churchill Downs on Saturday and may have his first gallop over the track on Sunday .
Owned by Robert LaPenta, he has won three of four starts overall, including the April 3 Florida Derby (gr. I) when rallying to score by a head.
