A Written Tycoon filly topped the opening day of the William Inglis & Son Melbourne autumn yearling sale at Oaklands April 17 in Australia, bringing Aus$80,000 ($84,492 in U.S. funds).
EBA Victoria purchased the filly, which is out of the Bluebird mare Turtle Dove, from Eliza Park.
The results for the first session included a gross of Aus$1,822,000 ($1,924,310) for the 156 horses that were sold. The average price was Aus$11,679 ($12,335) and the clearance rate was 81%.
“This has been a very strong day of selling,” Inglis director Peter Heagney said. “There was excellent competition on most horses and the clearance rate is indicative of vendors being satisfied with what buyers were prepared to pay.
“But most notably,” he continued, “we had a lot of new buyers here today that we haven’t seen participate previously at Oaklands, which is a tremendous result for everybody.”
