The Heart of the Horse Foundation, a California-based horse rescue operation, will be the beneficiary of a high-end mint julep auction and sale from April 11 through May 7, Kentucky Derby day.
The Woodford Reserve bourbon distillery and Tiffany & Co. have teamed up for the sixth year to raise money for equine and humanitarian causes by selling 103 exotic mint juleps in sterling silver julep cups for $1,000 apiece. Also available at auction are three sterling silver cups with a design around the base coated in 24 karat gold that will be auctioned off starting at $2,000 each.
Buyers of these cups will be treated to a unique mint julep made of ice made of rainwater captured on the pristine island of Tasmania, Australia; rare Chocolate mint grown in San Diego, California; bourbon smoked sugar from Louisville, Ky., and a small batch of the Master Distiller’s personal selection of Woodford Reserve super-premium bourbon. The cups will be sold and auctioned online from now through Derby day at www.woodfordreservemintjulep.com.
The cups and the drink will be presented on May 7 at Churchill Downs near the clubhouse escalator inside Gate 10. Any of the 103, $1,000 cups not sold online will be available for purchase May 7.
Over the past five years, Woodford Reserve and Tiffany’s Mint Julep Cup Experience has raised $300,000 for charity.
