A half brother to group I winner Black Caviar brought Aust$1.025 million ($1,059,110 in U.S. funds) topped the second session of the William Inglis & Son Easter yearling sale April 6 in Australia. Hawkes Racing purchased the Casino Prince colt, who is out of the unraced Desert Sun mare Helsinge, from Makybe, agent for Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm.
“I’m thrilled to bits,” said Jamieson of the bay yearling’s price, which made him the most expensive horse sold so far during the auction.
Black Caviar (by Bel Esprit) has won the Lexus VRC Newmarket Handicap (Aust-I), Coolmore VRC Lightning Stakes (Aust-I), and Pulse Pharmacy William Reid Stakes (Aust-I) this year. She captured the 2010 edition of the Patinack Farm Classic Victoria Racing Club Stakes (Aust-I).
The Easter sale’s results through two sessions included a gross of Aust$61 million ($63,030,100) for the 254 horses that were sold. The average price was Aust$240,157 ($248,159), and the median price was Aust$185,000 ($191,157). The clearance rate was 77%.
