On the eve of his seasonal debut, unbeaten champion Uncle Mo   emerged over the inexperienced Runflatout, impressive winner in his only career start, as the narrow choice in the March 11 first day of Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

The KDFW offers win and exacta future wagering on 23 individual horses and the “all others” mutuel field for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), and all bets are $2 minimum wagers.

At the end of the day Repole Stable’s Uncle Mo was the 9-2 favorite with two days remaining in the three-day pool, but West Point Thoroughbreds’ Runflatout, a 50-1 risk in oddsmaker Mike Battaglia’s KDFW Pool 2 morning line, was close behind as the 5-1 second choice. The Todd Pletcher-trained Uncle Mo is scheduled to make his first start of 2011 in the March 12 Timely Writer Stakes at Gulfstream Park.  Runflatout, who won his only career outing on Jan. 29 at Santa Anita, will make his stakes debut for trainer John Sadler in the March 12 San Felipe (gr. II) at that Southern California track.

A total of $51,097 was wagered on Pool 2’s opening day, with $40,828 wagered to win and $10,269 in exacta betting. Wagering will resume at noon March 12 and the March 13 final session of Derby Future betting will run from noon-6 p.m. KDFW Pool 2 mutuel payouts on Kentucky Derby Day will be determined by the odds in place at Sunday’s close of betting at North American racetracks and off-track betting facilities, and TwinSpires.com and other advance deposit wagering outlets.

The mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-olds other than the 23 individual horses in Pool 2, was the pool’s morning line favorite, but was an 11-1 risk after March 11. Bettors displayed solid support for Remsen (gr. II) winner To Honor and Serve  , a close 6-1 third choice, and Holy Bull (gr. III) winner Dialed In  , a 9-1 shot.
