Spin Cycle took command with a furlong to run and drew off to an easy 1 1/2 length victory in the listed Jebel Ali Sprint, the featured event at Jebel Ali Racecourse March 11.
Patiently handled by Frankie Dettori, the son of Exceed And Excel sat just behind the swift early pace set by Force Freeze and Sir Gerry through the first part of the five furlong dash. As the leaders began to falter, Dettori moved Spin Cycle into the clear and the pair shot to the front, drawing off in the final furlong to a comfortable win.
Force Freeze held on for second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Terrific Challenge. Final time for the five furlongs over the fast main track was 58.55 seconds.
Winning trainer Satish Seemar, who also conditions Terrific Challenge for owner Zabeel Racing International, told reporters afterwards, “We thought we had two good chances and both have run very well.”
“Terrific Challenge always goes well under these conditions,” Seemar continued, “but it was a first race here for Spin Cycle, who had disappointed us a bit at Meydan on his first start for us.”
Spin Cycle was bred in Ireland by Lisa Kelly, and is out of the Spinning World mare, Spinamix. He is a half-brother to the stakes-winning filly, San Sicharia, and is from the immediate family of 2001 Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) winner, Val Royal.
