Schramsberg, who captured the $200,000 Connally Turf Cup (gr. IIIT) at Sam Houston Race Park, was named 2011 horse of the meet. The 5-year-old son of Storm Cat out of Hall of Fame racemare Serena's Song (by Rahy), is owned by Bobby Joe Hammer of Elmore City, Okla. Trained by Chris Hartman, Schramsberg earned $120,000 for the Connally victory at 1 1/8 miles.

"It is an honor to be named horse of the meet at Sam Houston Race Park," Hammer said. "We appreciate it very much."

Dallas businessman Tom Durant won his first Sam Houston Race Park leading owner title, with eight wins. His big score came when his 3-year-old gelding Hidden Recipe captured the $100,000 Jim's Orbit Stakes.

In other news, Karl Broberg was the meet’s leading trainer, with 23 wins compared to 14 wins for runner-up Sarah Davidson. Quincy Hamilton and Lindey Wade tied for the riding title, with 28 wins each. Hamilton went into the final day two wins ahead of Wade. Wade won two to tie for the title.
