Calvin Borel captured the Meydan Masters International jockey competition at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai Feb. 18, finishing with 86 points. He was the lone American rider in the challenge, which involved 12 jockeys. Olivier Peslier finished second with 81 points.
The challenge began Feb. 17 and was scheduled to involve four races. But the third leg of the competition didn’t count in the point totals because it drew only eight runners, leaving four of the competing jockeys without mounts, according to Daily Racing Form. Borel finished fifth on Telluride in that pointless event and he finished last with Atlantis Star in the fourth leg.
Borel rode the winner of one of the races Feb. 17 and he was aboard the fourth finisher in the other.
Calvin Borel won an unprecedented third Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) in four years while aboard Super Saver in 2010.
