Jockey Brandon Meier was transported to Loyola Medical Center following an accident in the second race at Hawthorne Race Course Feb. 18.
Meier was unconscious on the track but started coming around on the way to the hospital and was able to move his arms and legs when directed. He later regained consciousness at the hospital and CAT scans showed no bleeding on the brain. Meier is awaiting x-rays on his back, shoulder, and hip. He will be held in intensive care through the night.
Jesse Lantz, thrown from his mount when trying to steer away from the accident suffered a scraped and bloody nose but was able to resume his riding engagements.
Ubiquitous, a Tom Dorris trainee, was put down following the incident.
