Generous to Stand Northern Season at Plantation Stud

Generous, who was purchased recently by Glenmorgan Farm in New Zealand from the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association (JBBA), will stand the Northern Hemisphere season at Plantation Stud in England.

Glenmorgan Farm shuttled Generous from Japan the past two years, but this summer purchased the stallion outright. He will be the first "reverse" shuttler from New Zealand when he travels to England this winter.

He is standing in New Zealand for the same fee as last year, $27,500, about $12,000 U.S. Generous has sired 30 stakes winners. He will stand in England for £8,000.

Generous began stud duties at Banstead Manor Stud in England in 1992. He was purchased by the JBBA in 1996. He has 65 foals in his first New Zealand-bred crop and covered 91 mares there last year. The New Zealand breeding season begins next week.

Plantation Stud was purchased by the late Howard de Walden in 1958 as his private stud. Twenty years later the stud took a more commercial approach and began standing stallions.

"With Kris moving into retirement this season we were on the lookout for a suitable replacement," said Plantation Stud's general manager Leslie Harrison.
