Daniel Sullivan, president of The Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation, announced Feb. 14 that Giant Oak had been named the state’s 2010 Horse of the Year and champion older handicap male.
Trained by Chris Block for Virginia Tarra Trust, Giant Oak holds a record of 5-5-3 from 24 starts and has earned more than $1.2 million during his career. The son of Giant's Causeway is out of the Crafty Prospector mare Crafty Oak, who was named Illinois’ broodmare of the year.
