Clearance Rate Increases at Arqana Sale

The clearance rate improved at the Arqana February mixed sale at Saint-Cloud in France, rising to 68% this year from 58.3% in 2010, and the number sold increased to 166 from 127.  But the gross revenue and average price dropped 16.2% and 35.9%, respectively, Feb. 14.

Blowaway, a 5-year-old gray Linamix mare, brought the top price of €67,000 ($90,740 in U.S. funds). The Broadhurst Agency purchased her from the La Motteraye Consignment.

While racing for her breeders, Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, Blowaway captured one of  four starts in 2008 and 2009 . Produced from the winning Diesis mare Soft Pleasure, Blowaway is a half sister to the winner Inoubliable (by Singspiel).

The auction’s final results showed a gross of €946,000 ($1,281,200) for the 166 horses that were sold. The average was €5,699 ($7,718) and the median was €3,500 ($4,750).

In addition, five horses were sold privately for €29,500 ($39,953). The sale’s gross, including private sales, was €975,500 ($1,321,501), down 18.2% from 2010.
