A Flying Pegasus colt topped the fourth and final session of the Magic Millions Perth yearling sale in Australia Feb. 13. Consigned by Touchstone Farm, agent, the colt was purchased by bloodstock agent John Chalmers for Aust$30,000 ($30,041 in U.S. funds).
The chestnut yearling is the first foal out of the lightly raced Canny Lad mare Akkachar.
The results for the session included a gross of Aust$903,700 ($904,920) for the 131 horses that were sold. The average price was Aust$6,898 ($6,907). The number sold and gross both were up from 2010, but the average was down.
Last year, the 115 yearlings that were sold grossed Aust$836,500 and averaged Aust$7,274.
The clearance rate fell to 64.2% from 74.6% in 2010.
"It was a real buyers market at Belmont today," Magic Millions acting managing Director David Chester said.
"Those there would have got great value and I'm sure a number of smart gallopers will graduate from today's sale. Obviously again, the clearance rate was lower than we would have liked, but this has been the case at similar sessions across Australasia over the past 12 months. Overall, we've finished up with pleasing results for the entire four-day sale and we're now very much looking forward to our upcoming yearlings sales in Tasmania and Adelaide.”
