Freezing rain Feb. 5 and a forecast for another round of frozen precipitation Feb. 8 has set back the scheduled resumption of live racing at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course until Feb. 11. Weather and track conditions also have wreaked havoc at Parx Racing, another Pennsylvania track.
Penn National programs canceled for Feb. 4-5 were rescheduled for Feb. 7-8, but now will be scrapped, officials said.
“Our crew worked very hard around-the-clock on the track throughout the weekend,” said Mark Loewe, vice president of racing at Penn National, “but the combination of rain and sleet with above-freezing temperatures during the day, and then the re-freeze at night, unfortunately set up a perfect storm for preventing them from getting ahead of the elements.”
Parx has lost multiple consecutive days of racing in recent weeks because of racing surface woes brought on by weather conditions. Parx canceled racing Feb. 7 with no word on the programs of Feb. 8-9.
