Dubai World Cup Attracts 312 Nominations

A total of 312 horses from 18 countries, including 49 from the U.S., have been nominated to the $10 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) at Meydan Racecourse March 26.

Included among the U.S. nominees, many of which were cross-entered in other races on the World Cup card, are multiple Eclipse Award winner Gio Ponti  , Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Drosselmeyer  , and multiple grade I winner Paddy O'Prado  . Also included in the domestic nominees are Duke of Mischief  , Evening Jewel, First Dude  , Fly Down, I Want Revenge  , Rule, Sidney's Candy  , and Mission Impazible  .

The 1 1/4-mile World Cup, the world’s richest third race, highlights a March 26 card at Meydan in which $26 million in purses will be distributed. The rest of the World Cup races are:

--Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-I), $5 million, 1 1/2 miles, turf, 271 nominations from 17 countries
--Dubai Duty Free (UAE-I), $5 million, 1 1/8 miles, turf, 315 nominations from 18 countries
--Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I), $2 million, 6 furlongs, 213 nominations from 14 countries
--UAE Derby (UAE-II), $2 million, 1 3/16 miles, 124 nominations from 12 countries
--Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-II), $1 million, 5 furlongs, turf, 171 nominations from 13 countries
--Godolphin Mile (UAE-II), $1 million, 1 mile, 372 nominations from 19 countries
