Stronach Stable's Golden Missile breezed five furlongs in 1:04 1/5 over a sloppy Oklahoma training track at Saratoga on Monday in preparation for Sunday's $750,000 Whitney Handicap (gr. I). The Pimlico Special (gr. I) winner trained by Joe Orseno got the first quarter-mile in :27 2/5 and was timed in :39 1/5 for three furlongs. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:18, getting the final eighth of a mile in :14. The clockers noted that Golden Missile was "stretching his legs" during the workout.
Among other Whitney starters, Lemon Drop Kid breezed five furlongs on the main track at Saratoga Saturday morning. The 4-year-old son of Kingmambo trained by Scotty Schulhofer completed the drill in 1:01 under jockey Edgar Prado. Also expected to run in the Whitney are Behrens, Running Stag, Cat Thief, and David.
