Gross and Average Advance at Sydney Sale

William Inglis & Son’s Sydney Classic yearling sale ended its three-day run in Australia Jan. 25 with increases of 8.3% in the number of horses that were sold, 11.7% in gross revenue, 3.2% in average price, and 4% in median price from a year ago. Thirteen yearlings commanded Aust$100,000 ($99,155 in U.S. funds) or more apiece.

“It was a very good sale, especially to increase the average with a catalog of 60 more yearlings this year,” said Inglis bloodstock director Jonathan D’Arcy. “Good types by first season sires were well-received on the market, and this sale has a good track record of producing future stars for young sires.”

The final results included a gross of Aust$14,181,500 ($14,061,700) for the 418 yearlings that were sold. The average was Aust$33,927 ($33,640), and the median price was Aust$26,000 ($25,780).

The clearance rate fell to 80.5% from 83.3% in 2010.

Eliza Park’s Magnus filly out of the Fantastic Light mare Coconut Mama brought Aust$170,000 ($168,564), which was the top price for the final session and for the entire auction. Blue Sky Thoroughbreds purchased the yearling.

Fairview Park Stud’s Snitzel colt out of the stakes-winning Hello Pamela fetched $135,000 on the last day. The amount was the auction’s second-highest price. Inglis listed the buyer as “W. Webster.”

Eleven different sires had progeny that brought six-figure prices, including first-crop sires Bernardini  , Magnus, and Excellent Art.
