A complete dispersal of Joan Rogers’ Applebite Farms and phase one of the Walter Family Trust horses make up part of Barretts mixed sale scheduled for Jan. 24 in Pomona, Calif. The sale, which begins at 10 a.m. in the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park, will offer a catalog of 392 horses that encompasses breeding stock, horses of racing age, 2-year-olds, and yearlings plus a supplemental catalog of 18.

Other major California operations offering horses at the sale include Martin and Pam Wygod’s River Edge Farm, Larry Mabee’s Golden Eagle Farm, and John Harris’ Harris Farms. California-based agent Andy Havens has a large consignment for several clients, and Sam Hendricks and Rancho Paseana also will bring several to the sale as agent.

Many good California families will be represented. Havens has a 2-year-old half-sister to millionaire multiple graded stakes winner Evening Jewel by Cindago as well as the stakes-winning mare Iza Bay, dam of two-time California Cup winner La Nez. The Walter dispersal, which agent Tat Yakutis is handling, includes the stakes-placed mare Watch Out World, a half-sister to Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner Cavonnier, who finished second in the 1996 Kentucky Derby (gr. I).

Two stallions that stood at Applebite, E Z Warrior and Gotham City, will be offered. The horses of racing age cataloged include stakes-placed Mr Tokyo and Candy’s Affair, a full sister to grade I winner Evita Argentina, from the Rancho Paseana group, and Tizwitty, an unraced daughter of Horse of the Year Tiznow  , consigned by Malibu Valley Farms Inc. as agent. Tiznow is also the sire of the mare Tiza Fast Kat from the Havens consignment.

Sires of yearlings and 2-year-olds include California’s leading sire, Unusual Heat, as well as Benchmark, Bertrando, In Excess, Lion Heart, Rock Hard Ten, Stormy Atlantic  , Swiss Yodeler, and Tribal Rule  .
