Kentucky stallion Najran has been sold to Jay Adcock’s Red River Farms near Coushatta, La., where he will stand the 2011 breeding season for $2,500. Najran had stood his entire stud career at Rick Trontz’ Hopewell Farm near Midway, Ky.
Trained by Nick Zito, Najran broke a track record for the mile at Belmont Park in 2003, taking the Westchester Handicap (gr. III) in 1:32.24, tying the one-mile mark set by Dr. Fager in 1968 at Arlington Park.
Najran, a 12-year-old by Runaway Groom—Line Command, by Capote, has gotten several good runners, including grade II winners Wasted Tears, Muny, and Buckleupbuttercup.
“He had a great year with his progeny in 2010 and should be very well-received in Louisiana,” said Trontz.
