French-bred England's Legend is by Lure, a two-time winner of the grade I Breeders' Cup Mile (in 1992 and 1993) and earner of $2,551,289 in his four-year racing career.
Lure was known for his speed and affinity for the grass. He made 18 of his 25 starts on the green, a surface on which he won three grade I stakes, two grade II stakes, and four grade III stakes.
As a 3-year-old, Lure won the grade II Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct on the dirt, and in 1991, at 2, he set a track record for five furlongs on the dirt at Belmont Park.
England's Legend has followed in her sire's footsteps. All five of her wins have come on the turf, and she has shown good early foot in her three U.S. races.
Lure is by turf sire Danzig out of the Alydar mare Endear. Alydar, of course, finished second in all three Triple Crown events in 1978. Endear won seven of 25 career starts, including the grade I Hempstead Handicap and grade III Rampart Handicap in 1986.
French-bred Mystery Tune, dam of England's Legend, won one of six career starts in Ireland. From four foals, Mystery Tune has had one starter and one winner -- England's Legend.
